OUR CLASSIC HARDTAIL – fast, light, versatile

The BIG.NINE/SEVEN range is the backbone of the MERIDA mountain bike line-up and one of the most technical products in our offering. At the top of our hardtail range stands the BIG.NINE TEAM, decorated with World Cup victories, European and World Championships and benefitting from the experience and knowledge of our racers, the BIG.NINE embodies modern hardtail mountain biking. Our top level CF5 frame weighs just 900 g, dropping below its predecessor’s weight while also improving on stiffness. Many of the latest technologies are incorporated to improve the BIG.NINE/SEVEN in other areas. Boost-Standard provides greater wheel stiffness. An aerodynamic downtube profile provides the potential for more speed. Super slim chain stays with an even lower profile and carefully shaped seat stays improve comfort. ‘Smart Entry’ technology keeps cables and hoses neat and rattle free.
But our BIG.NINE/SEVEN range consists of much more than our top level carbon race bikes. For 2018 the entry level BIG.NINE/SEVEN TFS frame gets a complete makeover.

The introduction of slim tube shapes creates a new look for the BIG.NINE/SEVEN TFS. A more relaxed geometry, achieved through a longer top tube and a higher head tube, offers a more upright riding position and enhanced trail visibility. The new frame also comes equipped with kickstand and fender mounts.

The new TFS frame has a lower stand-over-height and a long head tube. It also features a slack head angle and steeper seat angle for more control as well as a more ‘sitting within the bike’ riding position. The updated geometry also features longer reach for the perfect combination with short modern stems. 

The new TFS frame is aimed at the beginner to advanced rider who prefers less demanding trails and forest roads. The bike invites the rider to also use it on the daily commute which will make the fixing points for a rear rack, mudguards and a kickstand a real plus.



Our ‘S-Flex’ comfort seat post with its Cobra-head in combination with the ‘Flex-Stay’ seat stays give our BIG.NINE incredible comfort.


Only 10mm thin and slightly curved: Our ‘Flex Stay’ seat stays on the BIG.NINE offer a noticeable reduction of surface induced vibrations and impacts. Flax fibres (‘Bio Fibre Damping Compound’) that are woven into the carbon matrix improve the vibration damping even further.


The ‘Boost’ hub standard of 148 mm adds 6 mm width in comparison to conventional rear hubs. In particular, 29ers benefit from this new standard: A flatter spoke angle increases stiffness, furthermore shorter chain stays become possible which improve the agility of the bike further.

Bottom bracket*

The BB92 bottom bracket allows an extremely wide contact point with the down tube improving stiffness and acceleration.

Sub 900g frame*

Less than 900 g frame weight! The CF5 frame of the BIG.NINE in size M even undercuts the weight benchmark of our legendary 26" rocket 0.NINE.

Modern XC geometry*

In comparison to its predecessor, a noticeably longer reach of 422 mm in size M, combined with a steeper seat angle (73,5°), a slacker head angle (70°) and the only 80 mm long stem give the new BIG.NINE a next generation XC-geometry. The rider is perfectly integrated into the bike, aggressive agility meets stable calmness – perfect for today’s demanding courses.

Aero tube profile*

Fast forward! Seat and down tube closely follow the example of the aerodynamically optimised road bikes REACTO and SCULTURA. The truncated ‘NACA Fastback’ tube profile gives the BIG.NINE noticeably and measurably reduced air resistance.

Size specific wheels

Dependent on frame size we offer 650b or 29er versions. The requirements of smaller riders (reduced stand over height, lower cockpit) are best met by 650b on S and M frame sizes whilst at the other side of the spectrum, L and XL only come with 29er wheels.
