Another talent for the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM

By signing Julian Schelb, the German runner-up of the under23 world championships, the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM adds more talent to its squad, setting the course for the future.

The MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM had already significantly rejuvenated its line-up for the 2013 season by signing both Thomas Litscher and Ondrej Cink. The two riders fitted in with the existing team without any problems, making their way to the worldcup podium right away: Litscher finished in 4th in Nove Mesto, Cink rode to a 2nd place in Andorra. Seen this successes the team decided to sign another really strong rider for the next two years with Julian Schelb from Germany.

The most spectacular performances thus far from Schelb who turns 21 years old in November were three second places: At the German under23 championships he only got beaten by Christian Pfäffle. At the world championships Schelb got involved in a plie-up right after the start without any fault of his own, and still he moved up all the way to 2nd behind Gerhard Kerschbaumer. On Mont Sainte-Anne's selective course, Julian Schelb added a strong 2nd place in the under23 worldcup to his tally. Thus Schelb moved into the spotlight, and since his contract with Team Lexware-Rothaus expired at the end of the season, the runner-up of the under23 world championships was on the wish list of many team managers.

"It was not a hard decision as the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM offers the best support and surroundings", Julian Schelb comments. "After all my personal coach Ralph Näf has been riding for this team until the end of 2012, and I also know José Hermida and Rudi van Houts pretty well already: I have been spending several weeks in training camps in South Africa with Rudi twice, and thanks to Ralph I also got to know José." When asked about his goals, Schelb is both self-confident and purposeful: "I want to add some top results in my last year with the under23, and after that I will aim to step over to the elite category as smoothly as possible."

Commenting on both his assets and weak spots, Julian Schelb comments: "My biggest asset is my bite and fighting spirit. Once I have set sight on a target, I can push myself beyond reasonable limits to get there. And in terms of bike handling skills I'm on par with the best riders. My weak spot is my lack of organization: If it were up to me I would spend half a day on the sofa every now and then. But I'm sure that the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM can add the necessary structure to my schedule so I can perform at my very maximum."

As the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM's manager Fabian Aust is looking forward to working with Schelb: "First of all we are glad that Julian has signed with us. He's a rider with a bright future, and now that we have rejuvenated our squad we are able to calmly plan the years ahead. Of course it's a good thing that the team will be competing in three worldcup races now. And of course I hope Julian will follow in the footsteps of Thomas Litscher and Ondrej Cink by being competitive in the elite category right away in 2015."
