It takes a special kind of athlete to win a silver medal at under23 World championships at the age of 20. Apart from stupendous bike handling skills, one of Julian Schelb’s strongest points is his extraordinary fighting spirit. On his way to that silver medal, he got checked over the barriers right after the start. He got back up and made his way from last to second throughout the race. A similar thing happened at the European championships: This time a jammed chain threw him back to last place in the opening lap before he started to move up position by position to finish in 19th. Also keep in mind that he could not compete throughout the first half of the season due to an abdominal infection. The results that Julian Schelb scored in the second half of the season show his true potential, however. And the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM has the ambition to develop this potential to the full. Julian Schelb himself stresses that his first priority is to remain healthy and fit throughout the entire season in order to constantly score results in the Worldcup. And at the World championships he wants to perform at his very best.
