Rudi van Houts went through highs and lows last season: Teaming up with José Hermida, he could not repeat last year’s dominant performance at the Andalucia Bike Race. At the Cape Epic, the duo got to celebrate two wins at the first and the last stage respectively, but they missed out on a podium spot in the overall standings narrowly. At the Dutch national championships Rudi van Houts was the obvious favourite, but a mistake in the final lap left him in second place. And due to stomach issues the Dutchman could not compete for the entire month of August, forcing him to forfeit his start at the World championships. On the other hand, Rudi van Houts scored his first top10 finish in the Worldcup, crossing the line in 9th on Val di Sole’s demanding course and contributing to the team’s win in the team standings on that day. In 2014, van Houts wants to add more top10 finishes in the Worldcup to his tally. And at the World championships marathon to be held at the end of June in South Africa , van Houts is aiming at winning a medal.
